Chris Wennekamp

Obituary of Chris Wennekamp

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Christine "Chris" Margaret Wennekamp (nee Roberton), on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the age of 77 years.

Chris is survived by: her loving husband, Werner; sons and daughters, Ryan (Jillian) Wennekamp and family, Addison and Barrett; Michelle (Jamie) Barnes and family, Brett, Matt and Tyler; Trent (Rebecca) Wennekamp and family, Luke, Gabe, Paul and Ben; and Alisha (Pete) Fridrich and family, Hannah; sister, Margie Rowe; numerous Roberton and Wennekamp family members; and many nieces and nephews.

Chris was predeceased by: her parents, Dick and Barbara Roberton; and sister, Jean Ursulak.

Chris was born on the Belmont Farm north of Lloydminster, Alberta to Dick and Barabara Roberton.  In 1964 she entered the University of Alberta School of Nursing. She graduated in 1967 and moved out west to Vancouver. With such close access to the US and vacation sites, days off were spent skiing, touring, and enjoying Vancouver. In the summer of 1970, She met Werner Wennekamp and they were married in July of 1972.  Chris worked at the Lloydminster hospital but soon found that shift work was not conducive to being a full-time farmer, mother, and housewife, so she changed professions and kept that position until she passed.

Chris loved being with her family more than anything and she especially loved being a grandmother to her 10 grandkids.  Her time spent in hockey arenas watching her grandkids play were some of her favorite times.  She also enjoyed spending the summers at the various lakes north of town and watching her kids and grandkids learn to swim and waterski.

One of Chris's favorite pastimes was spending time in her yard and garden. She always had a large garden on the farm and would take great pride in how tall her corn grew and how straight her potato rows were.  During her teen years, she was very active in the Durness youth club.  Christine was an active 4-H member in Durness during her youth, and her commitment to the organization continued as she supported her kids and grandkids, who were all involved in the Kitscoty 4-H beef club.

Christine found great joy in exploring new places and cultures. After graduating from university, she traveled all through Europe. She also traveled to the United States, where she cherished visits with her sister.
