Obituary of Norah Winter


Winter ~ Norah Margaret Winter passed away at Pioneer House, Lloydminster, Alberta on September 8, 2024 at the age of 91 years.

Norah was born December 17, 1932 to RV and Mabel Ellis at a rural homestead near Meadow Lake, SK. The family moved to Marshall when Norah was in her teens, and shortly after she began her job as a Telephone Operator in Lashburn, SK. 

In June of 1950, Norah met Edmund Winter, and they were married the following year on October 24, 1951. Norah and Ed farmed north of Lashburn and in the following years had 8 children - 4 boys and 4 girls. Norah spent her days raising her kids and working side-by-side with Ed on the farm. 

Norah enjoyed gardening (especially flowers), crocheting and knitting, floor curling, bowling, camping and fishing, travelling, playing cards, and opening her home to anyone. She became affectionately known to many people as “Ma.”

Norah is survived by her children: Sandra (Bill) Davidson, Darryl (Donna-Marie) Winter, Don (Marian) Winter, Shiela (Dick) Vokins, Blain (Tracy) Winter, Beverly (Dave) Shauer, and Norris (Cheryl) Winter; son-in-law, Sean Campbell; sisters, Ada Schimelfenig and Marjorie (Lawrence) Fisher; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Norah was predeceased by: her husband, Edmund; daughter, Brenda Campbell; parents, RV and Mabel Ellis; and sisters, Hazel LaRoque, Violet Rewerts, Sylvia Lepine and Ethel Eveneshen. 

The Memorial Service for Norah will be conducted from First Baptist Church, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 2:00 pm. If you are unable to attend in person, you may view the live streaming of the service  posted on McCaw Funeral Service website under Norah's obituary at the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pioneer House or a charity of choice.
