Obituary of Dylan McWhirter
It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and friend, Dylan Carson Nicholas McWhirter on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
Dylan was born on May 28, 2001 to his loving parents, Melissa McWhirter and Nicholas Demarco in Glace Bay, NS.
He was an old soul, wise beyond his years. One of his many joys was writing stories on his typewriter, yes typewriter not computer or phone. He had an appreciation for antiques, his stories often being written by the light of an oil lamp. These tales were a reflection of Dylan’s soul and kept safe within the confines of his home and shared with few. He also found peace while fishing. Whether with family or alone, he was a brilliant fisherman, catching whatever he could while out on the water. Even if it was a boot or a glove, which he did catch one time, he loved everything about fishing, it was his peace as well.
Dylan was an animal lover. He especially enjoyed the company of his dogs and cats, cherishing every moment with them. He loved his family deeply as well. Planning visits and trips with them often. He loved sitting by a fire with music and a few beers with friends and family.
He was a hard-working man. He started his working life at a fish plant in Glace Bay, NS and later worked at a Home Depot in Lloydminster, AB. He spent the majority of his career on the oil rigs. By the end of the day, he’d be so covered in oil and dirt, you’d barley recognize him. But once his warm smile peeked out though the grime, you’d know it was him and that he truly loved and took great pride in his work.
While most things he did where done the “old fashioned” way, he did indulge in modern technology a bit. He was an avid Xbox and PC Gamer. At times, you could find him out for a cruise in his car. You’d always know when he was traveling by as you’d hear his music before you’d see his car.
Dylan was the kind of guy who would do anything for anyone. He’d give you the shirt off his back anytime of day. He cared greatly for those around him. His kind soul will be missed greatly by all who have the pleasure of meeting him.
Dylan is survived by: his mom, Melissa Ann McWhirter (David Nearing); dad, Nicholas Ronald Demarco (Angela DeMarco); brothers, Matthew David McWhirter Nearing, Carson John McWhirter Nearing and Brody DeMarco; grandparents, David McWhirter, Kathy McGean and Dale Robinson; uncles, John McWhirter, Chris McGean; dogs, Spike, Maverick, and Capone; cats, Simba and Nala; as well as numerous extended family members and friends from all across Canada.
