Obituary of Rosa Whitstone
Rosa Whitstone passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster, SK on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the age of 63 years.
Rosa was born on November 24, 1961 at the Paradise Hill Hospital to Pierre Whitstone and Victoria Heathen. A glorious day it was, as she was the first girl born into the family.
Rosa was a survivor. At the tender age of 6, she lost her mom. That profound loss of their matriarch created a strong and resilient individual, yet so compassionate and tender at the same time. She recognized the importance of keeping the family circle strong and intact and she did what she could to embrace kinship by acknowledging all her relations.
With her humble, supportive and caring nature, she became a “community angel”, assisting families at wakes and funerals, alongside her brother Bruce and sister Rose. She believed and embraced our traditional ceremonies, all because she loved her family immensely. She would smudge and pray that all would be looked after by our ancestors and the creator. She was a humorous, loving and compassionate mom, sibling, aunt and nohkom (noknoh).
Rosa is survived by: her beautiful children, Daphne Whitstone and Danika Whitstone (Jaydon); siblings, Daniel, Albert (Lisa), Ronnie, Rose, Soaring Eagle Whitstone, Crystal Whitsone and Pieretta Whitsone; sister-in-law, Vivian Whitstone; her beloved Chicims, Kohlsin, Kysin, Grizzly, Kaycee, Zaida and Amara; numerous nieces & nephews; traditionally adopted family; her earth angel mom, Edna Kanipitetew; sisters, Marilyn (Donnie), Maxine (Ralph), Darlene (Larry), Sandra (Lydel), Iris and Doreen (Laz); and brothers, Clifford (Jen) and Adrian.
Rosa Whitstone is predeceased by: her parents, Pierre and Victoria Whitstone; paternal grandparents, Alphonse and Harriet Whitstone; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Mariah Heathen; maternal aunties, Christina Harper, Louisa Wolfe, Violet Cook and Katherine Wolfe; maternal uncles, Scott, Frank and Daniel Heathen; paternal aunt, Flora Whitstone; brothers, Bruce Whitstone, Darwin Whitstone, and Lee Whitstone; cousins, Ethel Postnikoff and Julie Pahtayken; nieces, Peggy Postnikoff and Marcia Whitstone: nephews, Tanner Whitstone and Brydon Whitstone; brother-in-law, Jim Vallee; adopted dad, George Kanipitetew; adopted grandparents, Ole Jim and Josephine Kanipitetew, adopted brothers, George Jr, Rodney and Glinden Kanipitetew.
