Darrel "Kent" Wunsch
June 19, 1944 - January 15th, 2012
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Kent on January 15th, 2012 after complications following knee surgery on January 9th, 2012 in Saskatoon. Kent loved and lived life to the fullest. Spending time with his family and friends, travelling, quadding, skiing, camping and fishing, summers at the cottage at Turtle Lake, his annual golf trip with his good buddies and his many, many games of cribbage with his best friends Clarence and John who were very special to him. Kent was so happy to be getting new knees so he could continue to cross off all the things he had on his bucket list in his retirement. Kent will be so very sadly missed by his wife Wendy, his children Dean (Amanda) of Maple Ridge, BC, Carmen (Michael) Tether of Chilliwack, BC and his extra special grandsons, Kaiden and Sawyer. Kent was born and raised in Turtleford, SK where he graduated from high school and later attended Kelsey in Saskatoon. He returned to Turtleford to the family business where he and Wendy raised their children. In the late 80's Kent went to work at Echo Bay Mines at Lupin, NWT. His time in the North was a positive career move. Kent really enjoyed the North, the work and the comradery with his fellow workers. Nearing retirement he returned home and drove truck for 3-K Oil (fondly named "The Geriatric Pit") working with old and new friends. A memorial service was conducted from the Turtleford Community Centre on Thursday, January 19th, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Canon Don Skinner and Reverend Kun Kim officiating. The eulogy was written and delivered by his niece Kristen Pilling of Saskatoon. Special music was provided by long time friends Bev and Bill Meikle, the Turtleford Community Choir consisting of members from several surrounding communities, the officiants and soloist Marg Uhlig. The honorary pallbearers were Clarence Spence, John Courtice, Doug Willy, George Nielsen, Del Nordell, Walter Heggstrom and all Kent's very special friends at home and on holiday in Mexico and Arizona. A special thanks to Bob Knowlton and Reverend Skinner for setting up the web site so those who were unable to attend the service could be with us. The family wishes to also thank the following. An extra special thank you to the Doctors and nurses in the ICU at Royal University Hospital for their care and compassion prior to Kent's death. All those who provided the family with such wonderful and heartfelt support during our stay in Saskatoon and upon our return home to Turtleford, the officiants Reverend Canon Don Skinner and Reverend Kun Kim, the musicians and choir, soloist and pallbearers. Thank you to TADRA for the use of the Community Centre and the United-Anglican Church Women for providing the lunch following the service, to all those who sent flowers, brought food to the house, the phone calls and visits. It was and is totally overwhelming. What a great community we live in. McCaw Funeral Service is the best and we truly appreciate their care and compassion. Donations are being forwarded to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the Donor's choice.
