Please share a memory of Georgina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
(Georgina) Maude Appleton August 12, 1926 - January 8, 2012 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom at Dr. Cooke Extended Care on January 8, 2012. We know her long struggle with dementia is now over. Maude was the youngest of six children born to David and Maude Oliver, and lived most of her life in the North Bend area. In 1958, she married William (Bill) Appleton, and lived on the farm until Dad's death. She was a farm wife - growing amazing gardens and flowers, having a flock of chickens, canning and freezing produce, and feeding us! The smell of fresh bread just out of the oven was a family favorite. Mom loved to write poetry and journals, ensured books were in our home and enjoyed numerous card games. Both she and Dad spent many years involved in old time dancing. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing most of our clothes when we were young. Family was everything. In 1989, Mom moved to Lloydminster, enjoying the company of friends and family, and began traveling. She journeyed across Canada, into the United States and to England and Europe; while she enjoyed the experiences, she was always happy to return home. Church became a place of comfort for her. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and called them "my pride and joy". The past few years have been difficult ones for Mom and her family as her mental and physical health deteriorated, and we are extremely grateful to the staff at Dr. Cooke for the care and kindness they have shown her. Maude was pre-deceased by her parents David and Maude Oliver; husband Bill Appleton; grandson Troy Legge; family Jim (Mary) Oliver, George (Edna) Oliver, Bert (Margaret) Oliver, Margaret (Archie) Horton and brothers-in-law Bill Stringer and Walter Bourton. She is survived by her children Sylvia (Mark), Ryan and Kyle; Roger (Brenda), Ashley, Kelsey, William, David, Sierra and Kassidy; Carolyn (Nick), Oscar and Jacquelyn; sister Marion Stringer, sister-in-law Isabel Bourton and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the St John's Anglican Church, 4709 49th Ave, on January 11, 2012 at 2:00 P.M.; interment to follow at the North Bend Cemetery. For those wishing to make a donation in Maude's memory, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements entrusted to McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., Lloydminster. Mom wrote this many years ago - " Let the mistakes we have made, and the sorrows and troubles of our lives go. It is over and gone. And I say "Amen" to that." Our sorrow will pass, and our love for and pride in our Mom shall endure. CARD OF THANKS The Appleton families would like to give a special thanks to the Dr. Cooke nursing home. Thank you to everyone for their care, kind words and thoughts. Thanks to all who sent flowers, cards, food and donations.
