John Melbourne Finlay passed away at his home in Lloydminster, Alberta on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the age of 74 years. John will be sadly missed by his wife Marian; four sons: Ron Finlay of Winnipeg, Ray and Mona Finlay of Lloydminster, Dave and Mona Finlay of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Al and Laura Finlay of Lloydminster; nine grandchildren; five step children: Rob and Fern Scott of Westlock, Tina and Dale Kostuck of Spruce Grove, Gerry and Laurie Scott of Lloydminster, Susan and Rick Barnett of Edmonton, Dave Sexsmith of Vegreville; twelve step grandchildren; three sisters: Frances Glencross of Ontario, Marian Cruikshanks of Vancouver and Helen and Art Morrow of Winnipeg. John was predeceased by his parents Fred & Lily Finlay, his brother Bob and step daughter-in-law Karen Sexsmith. The funeral service was conducted from the Grace United Church, Lloydminster, Alberta on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 10:30 A.M with Reverend Sue Hertell officiating. The eulogy was read by John Van Cleemput and Joyce Carson. The hymns sung were "Will Your Anchor Hold In The Storm", "How Great Thou Art" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" accompanied on the organ by Irene Knowlson. Grace United Church Choir was in attendance. Honorary pallbearers was Everyone In Attendance. Active pallbearers were Dave Sexsmith, Gerry Scott, Jordan Scott, Rob Scott, Dale Kostuik, Tyler Finlay and Justin Finlay. Interment was held at the Lloydminster City Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. Card of Thanks: Thank you for all of the sympathy cards, kind words, flower arrangements and gifts of food. Thanks to the Reverend Sue Hertell, the Grace United Church Choir, Irene Knowlson and the ladies that prepared and served lunch. John Van Cleemput for reading the eulogy and Joyce Carson for reading the message from the Scott family. Special thanks to the pallbearers: Gerry Scott, Jordan Scott, Robert Scott, Dave Sexsmith, Dale Kostuik, Justin Finlay and Tyler Finlay.
