EULOGY Read by Grandchildren: Jewell Robson, Jade Priest & Travis Niekamp Eric Hilton Noble was born on June 15, 1919 to George and Blanche Noble of Hillmond, Saskatchewan. He passed away in the Lloydminster Hospital on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the age of 89. Grandpa was the second child in a family of nine. So there were always lots of chores to do on the farm. Gloria, Lois and Reta-Dawn remember their dad telling stories of the school bus rides, which consisted of four kids on the back of a horse - Alec on the front, then Fay, Harold and yes Grandpa on the end, needless to say many a time Grandpa would end up falling off the end of the horse as they made their way to the Indian Creek School. Grandpa finished grade eight and started grade nine only because there was talk of having a rink at the school so he could play hockey. They started to flood the rink but when the well ran dry that was the end of hockey and yes grandpa's schooling as well. Grandpa worked for Tim McKevitt on the very same farm that his father worked on when he first came over from England in 1910. Grandpa joined the army with brothers Alec, Harold and their dad George in June 1940. Grandpa took his training at Dundurn, Saskatchewan, he left on June 16, 1943 for Liverpool, England. Grandpa was sent over to France in July 1944 where he saw action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war Grandpa returned to Canada and came home on the 2nd of November. He attended a dance at the Broughton School where he met the girl he was going to spend the rest of his life with, Hilda Lesson. In 1946 Grandpa bought his farm and married Grandma on December 10, 1946. They were blessed with three daughters: Gloria in 1949, Lois in 1951 and Reta-Dawn in 1960. Grandpa loved farming, cattle and grain. In the winters he was the statistician for the Hillmond All Stars hockey team for many years. Grandpa and grandma both enjoyed square dancing and would travel a far distance, for those days to attend dances. They also enjoyed family gatherings and get togethers with friends and neighbors, playing cards, golfing in the summertime and curling in the winter - which brought great enjoyment to both of them. They retired from farming in 1982, rented the land to Lyle and Randy Noble in 1983. In 1989 they saw the farm machinery sell by auction and made the big move into Lloydminster. After retiring from farming they would travel across western Canada in their motorhome seeing different parts of the country and golfing. Bowling was another activity that kept both of them active. They took many seniors bowling bus trips where many a story came out about how Grandpa ended with a yellow feathered hat and the many nicknames given to various seniors. Grandpa's was Nugget because of his gold bracelet and three rings. Grandpa loved these excursions and loved to tease everyone new he met. Grandpa was a member of the Maidstone Legion and this meant a great deal to him. He seldom missed a Remembrance Day service, except for last year as he was too sick to attend. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him and he always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye when he saw them, even just seeing a picture had the same result. Grandpa was a kind hearted person and if you needed help you just had to ask and he would lend you his support. Grandpa lost the love of his life on January 25, 2007. He found it tough without her around, as they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. Grandpa went into the hospital at the end of December. On January 16 he passed away and is now with the love of his life Hilda once more. We will all miss you greatly Grandpa.
