ADAMS ~ Jeannette Amanda Adams quietly passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the age of 102 years. Jeannette was born on August 31, 1906 in Alexandria, Minnesota to Algernon and Amy Adams. Jeannette had an older brother, Chris, born in 1905. In 1908, the family moved to Canada, first to Nanton, Alberta and finally settling in the Marwayne district in 1910, homesteading on NE 1/4 6-52-2 W4. Mr. Adams became ill with pneumonia and passed away in 1914. Mrs. Adams was remarried in 1915 to Allan Parker. Mr. Parker was fondly remembered as a kind step-father to the children. The family farmed together until the early '60's when the Parkers moved to town leaving Chris and Jeannette on the farm. There was a lot of work on the farm in those days and Jeannette was a very busy woman. Often she wouldn't go to town for over a year. Chris would go to town a few times a year to carry out their business or get supplies, but Jeannette would stay home, busy with the chores. She milked to cows, cared for the chickens and ducks and the myriad of other things required to keep a farm going. She was very accomplished at crocheting and turned out beautiful work. She also loved growing African violets. She was great friends with their neighbour, Margaret Murray. The Lloydminster Fair was their annual outing that they attended with their families. That event and a couple of fishing trips each year were often the only times Jeannette left the farm. Chris and Jeannette sold the farm to Jim Nohnychuk in 1971, but stayed on until 1974, when they moved a trailer into Sam Murray's yard. Jeannette lost her beloved brother in 1982, when Chris passed away suddenly of a heart attack. In 1983, she moved to the Manor in Marwayne and it was at this time she made up for her earlier lack of travel by taking some extended vacations with her friends. When she began to require more assistance, Jeannette moved to Lloydminster, eventually settling into the Dr. Cooke Nursing Home in 2004 until the present. Jeannette was a kind, generous, hard-working woman. She is remembered fondly by the Murray children (a couple of generations of them) as a very hospitable and fantastic cook. She sometimes even made deep-dish pumpkin pies that were 2 inches thick. People were always welcome at her table where you would often get tea and fresh buns with butter and honey and lots of good conversation. Meals at her house were long because the conversation was as important at the delicious food. Jeannette was baptized in 1940 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. When she moved into Marwayne, she was then able to spend much time talking with her neighbours about God's promised from the Bible. This was very important to her. Jeannette outlived all of her close relatives. She will be dearly missed by the Murray families and all her close friends.
