Obituary of Selmer Barstad

BIOGRAPHY BARSTAD ~ Selmer "Sam" Olaf Barstad passed away peacefully at the Elk Point Health Centre, Elk Point, Alberta on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Sam will be sadly missed by his best friend Anna Pynten of Elk Point; brother Arnold and Edna Barstad of Norway Valley; sister Doris Cunderson of Norway Valley; five nieces; two nephews as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted from the Bethel Lutheran Church, Alberta on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Marv Krebs officiating. The eulogy was given by Tanya Welsh and Kari Johnston. The two solos were "Amazing Grace" sung by Amanda Barstad and "Life At The End Of Each Rainbow" sung by Karen Sawchuk. The hymns sung were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" accompanied on the organ by Kevin Nelson. Honorary pallbearers were All Those Who Shared In Sam's Life. Active pallbearers were Gary Bowman, Travis Bowman, Arden Barstad, Jason Gunderson, Brad Gunderson, Layne Pynten, Ryan Pynten and Shane Belsheim. Interment was held at the Pioneer Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. CARD OF THANKS The family of Sam Barstad would like to thank Pastor Marv Krebs, the organist Kevin Nelson, the soloists Amanda Barstad & Karen Sawchuk and the eulogists Kari & Tanya for their wonderful service. To all the pallbearers and everyone who attended the service - thank you. Thank you to the Lutheran ladies for preparing and serving such a wonderful lunch. Thank you to everyone who brought food to our houses, sent cards, flowers and donations.
