OBITUARY Clayton Joseph Reeves passed away October 4 in the Dr. Cooke nursing home after a lengthy illness. His is survived by his loving wife May, his daughter Glenys (Ken) Coleman, his son Clinton (Holly) Reeves, five grandchildren - Avril and Reid Coleman, Clayton, Bronwyn and Amber Reeves. Clayton was predeceased by his parents Frank S. And Millicent Reeves and his brother and wife Frank and Mabel Reeves. A celebration of Clayton's life was held October 9 in Grace United Church with Reverend Sue Hertell officiating. Grace United Church choir accompanied by Mrs. Irene Knowlson led in singing the hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee". The processional was "Morning Has Broken". Soloist Linda Quilichini sang one of Clayton's favorites "Climb Every Mountain". Two of Clayton's former students delivered the eulogy. Interment was in the Lloydminster City Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., were in charge of arrangements. Clayton Joseph Reeves (1927 - 2008) Clayton was born in Dodsland, Saskatchewan, January 13, 1927. His parents farmed just North of Kerrobert. He had one brother, Frank. Clayton attended Toledo country school and Kerrobert High School until the end of Grade Eleven. It was in Kerrobert High School that he learned his secretarial skills of typing and shorthand. He moved to Lloydminster to complete his Grade 12. Before taking his teacher training in Saskatoon, he worked for the Alberta Treasury Branch in Vermilion. He taught in Wartime, Saskatchewan, and Meadow Lake, then returned to Lloydminster to work for Husky Oil. In 1961, he purchased Miller Business College, later opening colleges in North Battleford and Red Deer. He retired from his schools in 1992. Clayton was a gifted speaker. He liked being with people and was very community minded. In 2000 he was presented with the Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement award. He enjoyed working in the organizations to help the community. Some are: - Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) - secretary of the local club, Alberta president, National Vice President, and JCI senator. - President of the National Association of Canadian Career Colleges. - one of the founding members of the Lloydminster Community Living Movement. - Past Master of Britannia Masonic Lodge, Past Patron of Lloydminster Chapter Eastern Star, Past Associate Bethel Guardian Bethel 8 - Past Associate Grand Bethel Guardian of Saskatchewan - Past President of the Al-Wa Shrine Club - President of the Lloydminster Rotary Club 1974-75 - District Governor of Rotary 1984-85 Clayton was involved for many years with the Lloydminster Music Festival. Music and dancing were very important to him. He loved to jive. While in University he was a part of the musicals and operators. Following retirement Clayton and May loved to travel; going to Victoria in the winter and summer at Turtle Lake with their children and grandchildren. Clayton and May celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this August. CARD OF THANKS Our sincere thanks to Dr. Chan and the staff of the Dr. Cooke for the compassionate care given to Clayton during his stay there. Thank you to Reverend Hertell for her support and comfort. We appreciate the music provided by the United Church choir, organist Irene Knowlson, and Linda Quilichini. Special thanks to Karen and Virginia for writing and delivering the eulogy. Thank you to the United Church ladies for providing the lunch. We appreciate the professional handling of the funeral arrangements by McCaw Funeral Service Ltd. Thank you to all who called, sent baking, cards, flower tributes and made donations in Clayton's memory. A big thank you to all who attended the funeral. Your kindness will always be remembered.
