Obituary for Helen Hanson Helen (Wilkinson) Hanson of Lloydminster passed away on August 25, 2008 just after her 88th birthday. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Art and infant son, Richard. She will be sadly missed by her son Don (Frankie) Hanson and their children Mark (Gina) Hanson and Robyn (Aaron) Canfield; her son Jim Hanson; and her daughter Judy (David) Hardes and their children Caitlin, Jacob, and Taryn Hardes; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Helen was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan on August 16, 1920. She worked at the Bank of Commerce after completing high school and later transferred to Wiseton, Saskatchewan where she met Arthur Hanson. They were married on October 4, 1947 and moved to Lloydminster to start a furniture business and later Hanson Bros. Hardware. Helen was involved in many activities and clubs including the Royal Purple, the Anglican Church Women's Auxiliary and the Lloydminster Ladies Curling Club. Coffee with the 46th Street gang was a regular occurrence from the 50s until the 90s. Helen was one of the original members of the Foolie Whoolies, a bridge club which was started in the early 1950s and is still going strong today. She also belonged to the Tuesday Bridge Club for many years and enjoyed playing cards with her friends at Hearthstone Place. When asked how she was, or how her day was going, Helen always replied with "Can't Complain!" This is the way she lived her life - with true optimism and enjoyment of each day. The Funeral Service for Helen Hanson was conducted at St. John's Anglican Church on Thursday, August 28, 2008. Don Hanson and Caitlin Hardes each gave a eulogy. Urn Bearers were her five grandchildren - Mark, Robyn, Caitlin, Jacob and Taryn - Gram was so proud of each of them. Honorary Pall Bearers were all of her Bridge Buddies and her great grandchildren. Interment followed at the Lloydminster Cemetery. Thank you to Reverend Cannon Donald Skinner, a long time family friend, for conducting the funeral service, to Pat Skinner for playing the hymns, and to the McCaws for their compassion in arranging the funeral. Thanks to the residents and staff at Hearthstone Place for their friendship and care over the past two years. Thank you to the staff at the Lloydminster Hospital for their assistance on Mom's final day. Thank you to all of our friends and relatives who attended the service, brought food, sent flowers and cards, and shared fond memories of Mom. Sincerely, Judy and David Hardes Jim Hanson Don and Frankie Hanson And families Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donors choice.
