Metherell: Frances Lynn "Fran" Metherell passed away on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the age of 57 years. Fran is survived by her loving husband Jim of Lashburn; her mother Evelyn McPherson of Maidstone; her brother Ted McPherson and his wife Barbara of Asslar, Germany; her sister Jean McPherson and her husband Jim Maxwell of Waseca; her mother-in-law Vivien Metherell of Lashburn; two sisters-in-law: Judy and her husband Colin Venables of Lashburn, Lorraine and her husband Lorence Willness of Spiritwood; one brother-in-law Murray Metherell and his wife Heather of Preeceville; her aunt Ann Brown of Lloydminster; her aunt and uncle Frances and Irvin Richards of Prince Albert; her uncle Harold Clark of Cambridge, Ont.; as well as numerous other relatives. Fran was predeceased by her father Bob McPherson in 2005. Fran was born on January 30, 1951 and raised on the family farm near Waseca. She was educated in Waseca and Maidstone and received degrees in Home Economics and Education from the University of Saskatchewan. Fran taught in Bladworth and Medstead. In 1984 Fran and Jim were married and began a very happy partnership of life and work on the farm near Lashburn. Though she continued teaching as a substitute in Lashburn and neighbouring schools, Fran's real career was in farming. Throughout her life, Fran's priorities were her marriage and her farm. She was an equal participant in all aspects of the farm business and was pleased to be able to seed much of the 2008 crop between chemotherapy treatments. Fran also served her community through the Women's Institute, the Lashburn Centennial Museum board, her political activities, the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation board, the Saskatchewan Surface Rights Arbitration Board, and other activities. Fran found pleasure in outdoor activities such as canoeing, cross-country skiing, gardening, and walking. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and visiting with family and friends, especially the youngsters. The memorial service for Fran was conducted from the Lashburn Community Hall, Lashburn, Saskatchewan on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 10:00 A. M. with Pastor Pat Ribey and the Reverend Lorna Brick officiating. The eulogy was given by Jean McPherson. Music was provided by Edith Klippenstein. The urn was carried by Fran's cousin Anne Moeller. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Fran's life. Interment was held in the Lashburn Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd. of Lloydminster administered the funeral arrangements. A sincere thank you to all those who have helped us through Fran's illnesses of the past two years. We have been fortunate to have received so many kindnesses. These include: kind thoughts, prayers, phone calls, visits, and hugs; food, gifts, flowers, and charitable donations in memory of Fran. We thank the people who sat with us in the hospital and the people who combined, sprayed, gardened, or mowed. Our family, friends, and neighbours have given wonderful support. We thank the health professionals who worked so hard to keep Fran healthy and comfortable: the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Cross Cancer Institute; the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Lloydminster Hospital; and especially Dr. Reddy, Dr. Fourie, the nurses of the Chemotherapy Department, and the nurses of the 3rd Floor Medical Department. We also thank McCaw Funeral Service Ltd. for their compassionate and professional administration of Fran's memorial service, Pastor Pat Ribey and the Reverend Lorna Brick for conducting the service, Edith Klippenstein for providing the music, the Community Choir, the St. James United Church Women for the excellent lunch, and the Reeces and Klassens for setting up the hall. To all of you and to any we may have overlooked, a heartfelt thank you. You have helped us through a very, very difficult time. Jim Ted, Barbara, and family Jean, Jim, and family Donations in memory of Fran may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Lloyd Region Health Foundation.
