I very sadden to hear of the passing away of Mary and wish to express my condolences and thoughts to the Hughes family. I was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity of teaching along side of "Mrs. Hughes" in Kitscoty since 1979 and up to when she eventually decided to retire. Without question, I continue to truly value Mary's caring, grandmotherly nature and passion that she shared with students and staff alike. Mary's selflessness and willingness to share her knowledge of teaching, wealth of experience, and truly love of those around her have left an indelible mark that continues to serve me during my own teaching career and life. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Mrs. Hughes' extended family.

Mrs. Hughes was my most favorite teacher of all my school years. She taught me gr.4 in Kitscoty. On my first day of school, she said she had known my Grandma and that I looked just like her. This was very touching to me because my Grandma had died when I was 3, but was spoken of very highly by everyone. So, to be said to look like her was an honor. Mrs. Hughes never believed you should have homework. She said that was what school was for and that you had other things to do at home. I can't imagine any kid arguing with that logic. At the end of gr.4, she asked me if I would just like to stay in gr.4 forever? I said as long as she was my teacher, sure! She will be grately missed! I send you my sincere sympathy in the loss of your mother, grandmother, friend...
