BIOGRAPHY BROWN ~ Frederick John "Jack" Brown passed away peacefully at the Jubilee Home in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Jack will be sadly missed by his loving wife Bernice of Lloydminster; daughter Joyce and Dean Gosenick of Maidstone and son Dave and Magie Brown of Lloydminster; three grandchildren: Serena, Shaelyn and David; one sister Doris Allan of Battleford as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Jack was conducted from the McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Allan Young officiating. Hymns sung were "Amazing Grace" and "Abide With Me" accompanied on the organ by Jeanette Young. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Jack's life. Interment to be held in Lloydminster City Cemetery on December 28, 2007. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. Eulogy as remembered by Joyce and Dave He was given the name Frederick John but we knew him as "Jack". It was a nickname his mother gave him. He was born on July 29, 1923, in Lashburn, SK, and he grew up in the Flat Lake School District. After finishing his schooling years he worked with his Dad on the farm for 1½ years before joining the Royal Canadian Armed Forces. He spent 1 year in Canada and 3 years overseas in England, Ireland, and Scotland; returning home to the farm in 1946. Besides working on the farm with his Dad, his other jobs included working for the R.M. of Hillsdale during the summer and he spent 4 winters on a dairy farm on Vancouver Island. In 1961, he married Bernice McCabe and they took over the farm from his Dad. Their family was blessed with a daughter, Joyce, and a son, Dave. Dad took pride in his farming; known for having some of the cleanest land in the area. He left no stone unturned; just check out some of the rock piles he made. He kept meticulous equipment maintenance, and his yard upkeep was no different. Dad took us on family camping trips and spent afternoons at Birch Lake; we never got anywhere fast but we always got there safely. As an adult we now know how long it really takes to get to Birch Lake! At Dave's hockey games it was Dad's job to run the score clock. He helped us clean the snow off the slough so we could go skating. He saw to it that we got to school even when the bus couldn't get to our yard. One time he took us on the tractor to the main road to meet the school bus when the snow was too deep for the bus to get through. Visiting with the neighbors for a game of cards was always enjoyed. He made a pancake breakfast entertaining as he flipped pancakes from the pan to our plates when the cousins came for a visit. In the fall of 1990, Jack and Bernice moved to Lloydminster. He occupied his time with odds and ends in the garage and did some small woodworking projects. He stuck close to home and didn't venture much beyond the mall. Trips to the mall became part of his daily routine; visiting with other men there or when he got his haircut. Although Jack has left our presence, reflections of him are with those he left behind.
