MAESS: Leslie William Maess was born on June 27, 1932 in Turtleford, Saskatchewan to William and Lorraine Maess. Less passed away in the Riverside Health Complex, Turtleford, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the age of 75 years. Les grew up on the farm located near his Grandfather’s original homestead. Les attended Aroma and Brooksdale schools for his elementary years and boarded in Mervin in order to attend Mervin school for his high school years. After high school he took an automotive diesel mechanics course and a welding course in Edmonton before returning to Mervin to farm the land that has been his home and livelihood ever since. Les married Catherine Morris on June 13, 1964 and was blessed with four daughters, Vickie, Sherri, Lori and Tammy. Les worked very hard to provide for his “girls” and loved them very much. As the girls married and had children, Les enjoyed crop tours, snowmobiling and quadding with the son-in-laws. He enjoyed going on walks, watching parades, playing ministicks and visiting with his grandchildren. Les enjoyed auction sales, CB radios, his cats, reading history books, Sunday drives, fall suppers and time with family and friends. Les is predeceased by his parents William and Lorraine Maess and brother Norman Maess. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Cathy; daughters: Vickie (Terry) Redlich, Sherri (Blair) Weitzel, Lori (Ryan) Rheaume, Tammy (Dale) Boyd; grandchildren: Rebecca, Rachel, Lee, Steven Redlich, Tyler, Brooke Brody Weitzel, Maddison, Kennedy Rheaume, Joshua, Kayden Boyd; sisters: Doris Rauser, Alice Tetz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at the Turtleford Baptist Church on Monday, October 1, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Charles Stein officiating. A eulogy was given by Brenda Jossy. The hymns sung were “Because He Lives,” “Bringing In The Sheaves,” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” accompanied by pianist Sylvia Bloom. Active pallbearers were: Albert Maess, Lance Maess, Murray Maess, Willy Maess, Wayne Tetz, Darryl Tetz, Brad Tetz and Rob Rauser, Interment followed in the Mervin cemetery. Thank you to McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster and Turtleford who administered the funeral arrangements. Thanks to the hospital staff at each hospital for the care given to Les. Thanks to friends, neighbours and relatives for their expressions of sympathy, kindness, cards, flowers, food brought to the house and donations in Les’s memory. We will always love and remember him. Leslie William Maess is survived by: his loving wife Cathy; four children: Vicky and her husband Terry Redlich of Biggar; Sherri and her husband Blair Weitzel of Lloydminster; Lorri and her husband Ryan Rheaume of Watrous and Tammy and her husband Dale Boyd of Melfort, eleven grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Rauser of Paradise Hill and Alice Tetz of Edmonton. Leslie is survived by his brother Norman. Donations may be made to the Riverside Health Complex Palliative Care or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
