Obituary of Ernest Robson

Please share a memory of Ernest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle, kind, gentle, considerate, positive, teasing, laughing, joking. Those are all words that describe Ernie. Ernest Frank Robson was born August 29, 1945 in the Wadena Union Hospital, Wadena Saskatchewan. Ernie was the first born of Frank and Dorothy Robson. Less than two years later he became a big brother to Gary. Gary once said that Ernie always beat him to the dinner table, and that of course accounts for the fact that Gary was much slimmer. Ernie first attended Mason School then finished in Invermay School in Invermay, Saskatchewan. While going to school he was a busy young man. He helped on the farm; he was in the Mason 4-H calf club and the Invermay cadets' corps. When school days were behind him he went to work doing construction work, then after the untimely death of his father he took over the farm. He went into raising pigs as well as grain. On July 20th, 1974 after a 2-½ year courtship he married Madeline Faltermeier. November 24, 1977 was an exciting day when their son Brent was born. They have five wonderful grandchildren. Ernest was so proud of his son and the family. Ernie was a community minded man. He was busy with the Kinsmen Club, a Councilor for ten years, Deputy Reeve for nine years. He was active on Hospital boards, the Agricultural board, the Invermay Recreation board, as well as Ambulance boards. He was dedicated to his work with S.A.R.M. Ernie coached hockey as well as being the Vice President, then the president of the Fishing Lake Hockey League. When Invermay needed a new arena, he was involved in the planning and construction of the New Invermay Arena. He was one of the fundraisers that bicycled from Lloydminster to Invermay. After Brent finished grade 12 they farmed together and later bought trucks for hauling under "Robson Trucking". Madeline superannuated in 1996 and they enjoyed some winter trips to Mexico, Hawaii, Germany, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. They stayed in Arizona three winters. Those trips were relaxing and Ernie really enjoyed them and always had a story to tell or to share. In 2004 after selling the farm they moved to Lloydminster. Ernie couldn't quit farming though. He loved it so much that he went to work first for Plandowski's south of Lloydminster, then at Holtby Farms in Marshall. He enjoyed working alongside his co-workers. Every morning he greeted the dogs, Emma and Nick and sent them back to the house. Most of the time he worked on the grain 'side'. Ernie's biggest treat was when K.F.C. was brought out to the field. A change for him was when he 'helped out with the cows' as he put it. He was very involved and was such a conscientious worker. He always had a story to tell. Ernie loved his sports. He kept up with hockey, curling, football, and baseball. He knew the stats and he could tell you about the players. If you should ask he could tell you all about the teams. Ernie also enjoyed fishing, camping and golf. More than anything though; Ernie's greatest joy was his family. His five grandchildren had a very special place in Grandpa's heart. He always talked about them and so enjoyed their activities. Ernie was so delighted with his recent invite by Ken Krawetz, minister of Finance (a long time friend and neighbor from Invermay), to the budget address in Regina. They were treated royally and got special recognition. In fact Ernie and Madeline were on their way back from Regina, via a detour through Yorkton, Saskatchewan at Ernie's untimely passing. Ernie passed away suddenly in the Yorkton Hospital in the early hours of March 23, 2012. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 38 years, Madeline; his son Brent (Daphne) and his special Grandchildren - Skylar, Cameron, Willow, Haydan and Xander; his mother Dorothy (Robson) Braaten; his brother Gary & Margaret Robson and his nephews Cory and Kevin. His brothers - in law Ed & Sherlaine Faltermeier, Harold & Barb Faltermeier, Raymond & Phyllis Faltermeier, his sister-in-law Marie & Ray La Prise, and Paul & Marla along with aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Ernie was predeceased by his father Frank Robson and his step-father Fred Braaten.
