Obituary of Gordon Kube

Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our loving dad, papa, grandfather, brother, husband and friend of many passed away in the Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on February 28, 2006. Gordon Joseph Kube was born to Helen and Harry Kube in Edmonton, Alberta, February 20, 1929. In 1932, due to his father passing away, Gordon and his mother moved to Unwin, Saskatchewan near Lone Rock. Helen worked for her dad and there she met and married Fred Lamb; they had six children: Madeline, Rose, Margaret, Doreen, Johnny and Michael. At 16 years of age Gordon quit school to help out with the farm as Fred had problems with his heart. In 1954 Gordon moved to Chetwynd, British Columbia to work in the Forest Industry. There he met his wife Elsie Calliou and her young daughter Lynda. Elsie and Gordon were together for 46 years. They had two boys and one girl, Alvin, Joseph and Brenda. In 1963 they moved to Lone Rock, Saskatchewan. Gordon started work in the oil patch where he stayed until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement Gordon still worked part time and in 1995 they moved to Lloydminster where Gordon kept busy working odd jobs as he loved working. Gordon was a kind man to the core of his soul - he always role modeled the true meaning of community. Always without reservation he gave to his community; he was a volunteer fire fighter for Lone Rock; he fostered children in trouble; he was a Big Brother, he was a Forrester, he volunteered at the local curling rink, he managed the Lone Rock water treatment system and sewer system and kept the Lone Rock grounds in good shape; he was a member of the local Hall Board, and he was also the mayor of Lone Rock for several years. Gordon leaves his grandchildren: Lloyd, Vernon, Peter, Monica, Veronica, Cody, Colton, Chevy, Chopper, Cash, Realean, and Richelle; great grandchildren: Lloyd Jr., Joseph, Brett, Josh, Hunter, Carter, Riley, Victoria and Logan and one great great grandchild Blake. The funeral service for Gordon was conducted from the Church of Christ, Lloydminster, Alberta on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Dean officiating. We wish to express our appreciation for the assistance provided by Dave, Glenn and Dale McCaw. Their superior professionalism and compassion during this difficult time helped all of us deal with our pain. We also thank Dr. Endemann and the Lloydminster Hospital staff for their dedication and support to Gordon during his stay at the hospital. We are thankful and grateful for all the help and compassion the Kube family received from the community. Donations in memory of Gordon may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
