HILDA MAY NOBLE Hilda May Noble passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2007 in the Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster, SK at the age of 81 years. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the Grace United Church in Lloydminster with Reverend Harold Martin officiating. The precessional music was “Angels Among Us”, hymns sung were “In The Garden,” “Shall We Gather At The River” and “Amazing Grace” by the Grace United Church Choir, the organist was Irene Knowlson. The readings were Psalm 23 read by grandson Travis Niekamp, Romans 8 read by daughter Gloria Priest and Gospel John 14 read by Reverend Harold Martin. Special song “Grandma - Tell Me About the Good Ol’ Days” was sung by grandson Kyle Friday and a guitar solo “Guitar Waltz” played by nephew Don Redden - a special request made by Hilda a few years ago. Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Jewell and Brent Robson, Jade and Lori Priest, Michelle and Kevin Sandercock, Kyle Friday and Travis Niekamp. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Hilda’s life. Eulogy read by Granddaughters: Michelle Sandercock and Jewell Robson Grandma began her life in the Rutland-Winter area May 30, 1925. She was the second youngest born to Alfred and Isabella Leeson. The family moved up to the Landrose District when Grandma was around the age of six or seven where she began her schooling. Grandma met Grandpa at the Broughton School House dance in 1945 and they were married shortly after, December 10, 1946. They began their married life together in the Hillmond District where they raised their three daughters; Gloria born in 1949, Lois in 1951, and, after what we figure was eight balmy years, there was a cold snap at the beginning of 1960, and at the end of that year, Reta-Dawn was born. Having three daughters certainly helped when dividing up the many chores that came with the farm, such as being sent down to the dirt cellar to fetch potatoes for Grandma. However one time, our mothers decided to pull a little prank on Grandma. Apparently this task was delegated as Grandma had a phobia for the lizards that sometimes lurked in the cellar. After finding a long potato sprout, they lightly grazed Grandma’s bare leg sending her into a shrieking panic. That episode didn’t help Grandma conquer her fear at all, as many years later I ran up the basement stairwell, yelling to Grandma in delight to come and see the latest pet I had found... Grandma met me at the top of the stairs only to recoil in fear as I shoved a mason jar in her face with a salamander squirming to escape. When Grandma wasn’t busy helping Grandpa with the cattle, the horses, or in the field, she enjoyed spending her free time curling, square dancing, gardening and being involved with the Hillmond Arena-ettes and the Hillmond Ladies Club. The door was always open to friends for many evenings of socializing and enjoying each other’s company. Whether it was playing Canasta with Jim and Sabra, or Sunday afternoons at either Russell and Vernon’s or Uncle Alec and Auntie Doreen’s, these gatherings were always very much looked forward to by our mothers and Auntie Reta-Dawn. After raising their family, Grandma took up the hobbies of camping, bowling, golfing and traveling to new places and to see their grandchildren and the many friends they made along the way. Jade and Jewell recall one of these visits very fondly. After spending tireless hours ripping holes in his jeans and fraying them to create the perfect item for his very 80’s wardrobe, Grandma stumbled upon them. Jade was quite surprised when he pulled them on to wear only to find she had spent countless hours as well, patching all the holes. All of us have favorite memories of when Grandma and Grandpa came to visit. In particular for Kyle, he captured a memory forever when unbeknownst to Grandma he tape recorded her frustrated attempts to get him out of bed and dressed. Much to our entertainment we spent the remainder of the morning playing back her wake up call of, “Get the heck out of here.” Over and over and over . . . Getting together for Christmas was eagerly anticipated as well. Travis especially enjoyed the annual tradition he shared with Grandma, making their special Apple and Orange Salad. We all enjoyed the family meal, with exception of the brussel sprouts that Grandma insisted on having. We’ve been very fortunate to have a Grandmother such as her for so many years. This year Grandma and Grandpa celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. We consider ourselves blessed to have such a great example of a strong and happy marriage. Grandma was predeceased by her mother and father; twin infant brothers - Wilbur and Wilfred; brothers – Wylie Leeson; Robert Leeson; sisters - Margaret Deptuch, Ellen Redden; brothers-in-law: Tony Deptuch, Harold Redden and Bob Rogers and great grandson Derek Robson. Grandma is survived by her loving husband Hilton; daughters: Gloria and husband Don Priest; Lois and husband Alfred Friday, and Reta-Dawn Niekamp; grandchildren – Jewell and Brent Robson, Jade and Lori Priest, Kyle Friday, Michelle and Kevin Sandercock, and Travis Niekamp; great grandchildren: Austin and Shivawn Robson; Ashlie Priest; Jaxon and Kruz Sandercock; sister: Isabel Rogers; sisters-in-law: Mabel Leeson and Mildred Leeson as well as numerous other brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Finally Grandma is survived by the legacy of numerous families and friends warmed forever by her genuine caring nature. No doubt, she continues to watch over us from her new resting place in heaven where God has found room for one more angel who was indeed “An Angel Among Us.” McCaw Funeral Services Ltd. of Lloydminster, administered the funeral arrangements. Interment followed in the Lloydminster Cemetery.
