Obituary of Velma Grant
Please share a memory of Velma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Velma Grant passed away peacefully in the Lloydminster hospital on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the age of 86 years.
Funeral Service was conducted from the McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Pat Ribey officiating.
Interment was held at the Baldwinton cemetery.
McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster administered the funeral arrangements.
Velma was born at home on the farm near Unity, Saskatchewan on January 12, 1924. She was born the youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Angelo Bertolussi.
Velma attended the Vance school starting at age 6.
She loved to share her childhood memories. Especially, about driving to school in the summer by horse and cart and during the winter by team and cutter...she would tell us how cold she would get before she even got to school.
After grade school, Velma worked on her parent's farm and around the area until she met and married George Grant in 1956 and they lived on the farm near Baldwinton.
In 1957 George and Velma had a son James, who they lost at birth.
Velma worked hard and enjoyed farm life. She loved to sew and garden. She helped raise the chickens and pigs and milk the cows.
Summer time was always busy on the farm, but Velma always made time for Kenny to come and stay for the holidays.
Lots of memories were made and Velma and George enjoyed many happy years on the farm.
Later, they retired to Lloydminster and settled into the city life.
George's health failed and eventually he moved into the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre.
Velma continued to live at home and care for George until his passing.
Velma stayed active right until the end, gardening, cooking, canning and enjoyed visits with family and friends.
She wanted to stay in her home as long as possible and was so blessed to have friends, like Blanche, family and Home Care that helped make this happen.
Velma was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, her husband and son.
She will be sadly missed by relatives and friends and all the people her life touched. Her positive attitude is an inspiration to all of us and her wealth of knowledge will leave a huge void that google and internet just can't fill!
We love you and miss you...until we meet again.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Home Care and Dr. Kerlis for the excellent care given to Velma. Your kind and gentle care brightened her day and touched our hearts.
Thank-you to the Pastor Pat Ribey for a beautiful service, Irene Knowlson for playing the organ and the ladies for preparing and serving the lunch. McCaw Funeral Service was a pleasure to deal with...thank-you for your compassion.
We would like to thank family, friends and neighbors for your expression of sympathy through visits, phone calls, flowers, food and cards. You have helped share and cherish memories of Velma through your love and support.
Thank-you
