Larry was one of those people who I remember very fondly from my time in Lloydminster. He was one of the people involved in bringing Junior A hockey to Lloydminster when the original Prince Albert Raider franchise became available in the early 1980s, and even coached the team for the latter half of its inaugural season.
A good man in every sense of the word.

I had the distinct pleasure to play for Larry back during the 73-74 and 74-75 seasons in Lloydminster with the Blazers hockey team. Larry was without a doubt the best coach I ever played for, but what made a lasting impression on me was his character and the way he carried himself, he was a perfect role model and I was very fortunate to have crossed paths with him. My condolences go out to the Leach family.

I have great memories of Larry, having also been raised in Lloydminster, and later in life playing hockey with the oldtimer gang in Wainwright and Lloydminster. It was always a thrilling to watch him perform; and such a nice man and team player.
He will be missed.

Jay, Gary, Brenn and Lori,
I was so sorry to learn today of Uncle Larry’s passing. I have many fond memories of time spent with your mom and dad through their wonderful friendship with my folks. They were both very special people, and very special to our family. My mom devoted many hours of time visiting Uncle Larry and taking him for walks, telling him stories of hockey and Auntie Chris along the way. My sadness is comforted that he is now with Auntie Chris, Bree and other friends and family. Hugs to all of you.

As a Scottsdale neighbor and friend to Lori-Lynn, I have heard of her Mother and Father for several years with great affection. They clearly were loving and interesting parents to have gifted the world with Lori-Lynn and her brothers. I wish them all peace, great stories of their Dad that make them smile, and an enduring love of Larry -- Ann Shannon

To all the family, many of us will remember your dad for his involvement and activity in a sport that he obviously loved... I am sure you have many memories outside of that arena, that you can hold dear. Your dad was indeed a great fellow..and a great Lloydminsterite ambassador.. He obviously had a profound affect on many a young hockey player and even myself as a player and as a referee. Never seen him totally lose his cool! Not once! My sympathies to each of you.

Dear Jay, Gary, Brenn, Lori-lynn & families:
Many memories flood our hearts and minds as we bid farewell to your dad. I remember Larry chuckling at the neat row of cowboy boots lined up at our back door only to find one less pair at their own place several years later and how proud and happy he was of his family. As kids all the fun we had at the rink no matter how cold it was skating and 'cracking the whip' and now his turn has come as 'whip' sending him to be with his beloved Chris'. Rest Well Lawrence!
Much Love to all of you. Olga (Peter) McGale & family

To all the Leach family....
Our deepest condolences on the passing of your Dad, Lawrence.
I have many happy memories of him from the 50's when he played for the Victoria Cougars,WHL, and my Dad and I would go to see his home games. I feel that it was a privilege to have been on the ground floor as he launched his future success and career. What a great role model he has been for so many aspiring hockey players who followed in his footsteps. A life well played.
Take care.

As a public and high school compatriot of Lawrence's, I would like to add my condolences on his passing. Lawrence was always a person of great dignity and this was plain to me watching him on the ice in high school playing with other guys such as Ray Hamlin, Eugene Ewanowich, Vic Deveryac and so on. It was always a thrill to watch his grace as he picked up speed from one end of the ice and deked his way to the other end through the whole bunch of us. Just kind thoughts and great memories of a fine individual. Art (younger Justy).

Larry Leach meant so much to Roger. Roger always said that Larry was the best coach he ever had. Larry led those young men through some of the best times of their lives - none of them will ever forget those years.
My family and I send our deepest sympathy to Larry's family.

I would like to thank you all for sharing your father with the Lloydminster hockey community. Larry made the biggest impact on the sport in Lloydminster that I have seen to date. Not many people can quietly walk through life and influence so many. I took great pleasure in learning about life as well as hockey playing for Larry. I have fond memories of him and will never forget him.

Larry Leach was a great man. He taught his young hockey players that if you played hard, played the game your best then you will also have great success in life. I don't know of anybody that didn't grasp that message , including myself. Thank you Larry.. Jay, Gary, Brenn and Lori-Lynn please accept our deepest condolences

What a great guy was Larry Leach. A very quiet hero - the best kind - to all us kids playing Lloydminster minor hockey in the 1950s. With his best friend, Ray Hamlin, he left Lloydminster to join the Humboldt Indians junior hockey team as Lawrence and came back as Larry for the rest of his life. Captain of the Springfield Indians at age 21 (a team that included Don Cherry and coach Punch Imlach!). Two seasons with the Boston Bruins before becoming a key player with Portland Buckaroos and their decade-long dominance of the Western Hockey League where coach Hal Laycoe is credited with introducing a checking line, with Larry centring against the best line of every opposition team every game. Penalty killer deluxe. So humble that he never kept a single Boston or Portland sweater! Guess he didn't need them with which to farm his beloved land!
So proud of all his family. To his entire family, just remember that you were all tied for first place in his very big heart.
RIP, Larry.
