Velma Johnson, 75 years of age born on August 3, 1944, in Limavady, Northern Ireland, left us peacefully on January 22, 2021 with her family by her side at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.  

Velma held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens University, Belfast Northern Ireland, and a Master of Science Degree. She ran a private practice, Freedom Counselling as a Marriage and Family Therapist. She also held a Library Degree. Velma was a part of a square-dancing club, in which both her and her husband (Ron) participated in together. She was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. 

Velma is survived by: her loving husband, Ron Johnson; sons, Gord and Richard (Allison); stepsons, Lee, Tim (Krista),  and Tiana (Brandon); granddaughters, Tarrynn (Derek), Sarah (Damien, Kohen, Jaxon), Victoria (Brandon), Hope (Justin, Sophia, Everly); cousin, Hilary (George); close friends, Eileen, Rod (Judy), Ann, Marilynn (Ron), and many more.  

The Funeral Service for Velma will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be by invitation only. The service will be live streamed and posted on the McCaw Funeral Service website under Velma's obituary at the time of the service.

Donations in memory of Velma may be made to The Olive Tree Community Centre.
