Obituary of Norman Gerwing

Please share a memory of Norman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
GERWING, Norman Frederick Oct. 13, 1972 - Jan. 9, 2010 The family of Norman Gerwing is sad to announce his recent passing. Norm grew up in Lake Lenore, Sask., and part of him has always remained in that small farming town even as he spent most of his working life in the diamond and gold mines in Yellowknife, the oil sands near Ft. McMurray and the Husky upgrader in Lloydminster. He made friends wherever he went. An avid Riders and Flyers fan, he was a local hockey dad and coach, and his kids' biggest fan. Norm loved camping, fishing, golfing and was a true outdoorsman. He loved playing cards, especially with his parents, his brothers and sisters, and his own kids. There will always be a place for Norm at the card table. Norm was well loved in his life. Many were attracted to his lively intelligence, his huge capacity for fun and laughter, his talent for mischief, and his enormous heart. He loved his family dearly and was the best dad in the whole world. There is now a great big hole in the family and in the hearts of all who knew and loved Norm. Left to grieve his loss are his loving wife, Stacey, and his children, Rebecca, Courtney, Garrett, Tyler, and cat, Charlie, of Lloydminster. Also grieving are his parents, Fred and Marie Gerwing, and siblings, Des (Karen), Paul, Pat Joa (Kevin), Phil (Pat), Roberta, Esther Nystuen (David), Terry (Karen), Roger (Shelley), Dennis (Cecile), Matthew (Stephanie), Lorne (Gail), and Fred (Shauna); and Stacey's parents, Angela and John Evans, sister Fay Haines (Jason), and brother Chad (Karen); 39 nieces and nephews and numerous friends who will miss him very much. We love you Normy! The family extends sincere gratitude to all who have helped the family in their time of need. Our utmost thanks and appreciation goes out to the multitude of friends, acquaintances and strangers who came to help the family search for Norm and for the support of the entire community of Lloydminster. The offers to help with air and ground searches were overwhelming and to the RCMP who worked so diligently and helped the family every step of the way. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Servus Credit Union in Lloydminster, AB. or to the Advantage Credit Union in Saskatchewan. A burial and short service will be held in Lake Lenore on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Anthony's Church.
