"Ziggy!! Ziggy!! Ziggy!!" I will never forget Uncle Jim's thunderous lead into our bowling cheer. That cheer, Uncle Jim and Aunty Gail took us through provincials and to nationals, not to mention the thousands of balls thrown back in Lloydminster. They were the heart and soul of that alley, and directly responsible for the vast majority of the fun and laughs we all had.
Perch Lake is another place full of Uncle Jim memories. Uncountable laps around the lake, pulling us behind his boat. And it didn't matter how many of us rugrats were lined up, everyone got a turn. There was something magical about that line of cabins at Perch Lake in the 80s, from Pat and Gerry and their ice cream machine at one end, our little shack in the middle, then Hohne's, John Boy and Laurie a bit up the hill, and Aunty Margaret and Uncle Wayne's pool hall at the other end ... and Uncle Jim at the heart of it all.
And then there were the barn dances on their acreage. I don't recall Uncle Jim having much need of a barn for animals, I fully believe he built that barn solely for the annual barn dance. I was too young to get into the adult shenanigans but us kids made our own fun, jumping around on the pile of bales. Then when it was time for kids to go to bed but the adults were far from finished partying, we all got herded into the house, but there were too many of us, so it was at least 3 to a bed lol.
Uncle Jim, you were a role model to so many of us, always putting everyone else before yourself. No matter how much fun we were already having, the fun factor doubled the instant you joined in.
Every. Single. Time.
I don't know anyone else who had that effect on so many people. Rest in peace Uncle Jim, and please give Aunty Gail a hug from the Drechsels.

I am sending my condolences to all of Jim's family.
Growing up in Lloydminster on the North side of the tracks, we lived just a block away from the Hohnes and a couple blocks from the Waldorfs. Our dads all worked together. The Hohnes were a big family and I went to school with most of them.
I remember when Jim and Gail started dating, I was in such awe of how happy they were and how much fun they always seemed to be having. I really admired them as a couple. Then as years went by they raised a beautiful family. I was in awe once again.
Anytime you would run in to either Jim or Gail they always asked how I was doing and how my parents were doing. Conversation was easy, warm and always welcoming. Jim was always a jokester and loved to tease. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his radiant smile.
RIP Jim

It has been many years since I worked with Jim at Domtar. I also worked with his dad, Hans Hohne, and Gail's dad, Gerry Waldorf. We were a great team! Jim was an excellent co-worker. He always had something up his sleeve or something humorous to say. He kept us all on our toes and laughing, that is for sure. Everyone at Domtar thought very highly of him.
We moved away to North Battleford in the late 70's, but whenever we would return to Lloydminster to visit, and if we ran into either Jim or Gail, we could pick up and talk just like old times.
Jim will be missed.
Our condolences to the family.
RIP Jim.

Dear Deanna, Carmen, Barry, Ashley and your Families and to All who loved your Dad
Maurice had so many great stories of your Dad…they were great family friends growing up on the north side! And that friendship continued throughout their busy lives, working in the construction world.
Maurices’ Mom Alida always laughed when she told the story of when Jim would come over to see Dan & Maurice and loved the smell of her fresh buns. He managed to snag more than 1 every time!! She loved your Dad too.
In 2006 we had a special visitor to our home, Santa Jim popped in! We had so many special times together over the years. My heart is heavy for all of you, my deepest sympathy and love, Ferne Valette

Omg, so sorry to hear of your loss. It seemed to happen so quickly.... it is truly a blessing that all of you were able to be with your Dad!!
Jim was a special man who made anyone he met feel so welcome. He was such an upbeat person who always had a smile.
May your memories give you peace...
A Poem came to mind:
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive &
well preserved body
BUT rather to skid in sideways,
LOBSTER IN ONE HAND, COLD BEER IN THE OTHER, body thoroughly used up,
TOTALLY WORN OUT & SCREAMING " WOO HOO~ WHAT A RIDE!~ GAYLE HONEY, I AM
HOME!"

Later, the archives worked bingo for several years at the Moose Hall. Jim always made jokes about the “Old Ones” from the Archives.

He truly will be missed and cherished! It is hard to express a loss when talking about family or community. There are no words when expressing the loss of the leader of so many people or community organizations. I know Jim was that person being family or community leader. He was our leader our family man our father our cousin our man. Jim be our man our leader for that after life. Say hello to those who have already left us. I hope we get to meet somewhere in the afterlife because we will always want and need you in our life. ❤️

Q: What will you never forget about James?
A: I will never forget how Jim cared for each and everyone of us as his own during all his years at the bowling alley. Not only did he give us three hell when we deserved it but also treated us with praise and happiness when we were successful at what we did. And of course this didn’t stop at bowling. I personally knew Jim as a fellow carpenter and he was always eager to assist my knowledge in that too. All of you know this, Jim was a true gem amongst simple stones and he WILL be missed. Oh and I’m sure you know I meant my sisters when I said three. Condolences to all of you.

Jim was such a great friend. We will cherish the many nights of cards played at our house, the lobster nights spent in our gazebo, the dances and gatherings at the Moose Lodge enjoyed in his company. We will truly miss his visits, rarely did Jim ever drive by our home without stopping in to have a coffee or a beer. He was always there for Marvin and was the first person to visit him in the Maidstone hospital last November after being transferred there after his surgery in Saskatoon. Our lives will be a little less brighter without him. RIP our beautiful friend. Our Love ❤️ to Deanna, Carmen, Barry and Ashley and Shirley.
