Obituary of Donald Macdonald

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Wilson Macdonald who, following a brief illness, died peacefully the afternoon of Tuesday, September 19, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Don was 83 years old.

Don will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years, Helen Anne Macdonald; his children, Jennifer (Grant) Janes, Carolyn Macdonald and Daryl Macdonald; sister, Kathleen (Clyde) Waller; in-laws, Jean Roy (Bryan) Armstrong, and Irene (Lou) Zaganelli and many other family and friends.

Don was predeceased by his parents Rendle Gideon and Norah (McNinch) Macdonald; his Aunt Dorothy (McNinch) and Uncle Leonard Cruttenden; sister-in-law, Louise Schurman; and brother-in-law, Donald Schurman.

Don took great pride in his role as a professional accountant, but more than that, it was his interest in the lives of his clients, many of whom he considered friends, that meant the most.   Outside of work, over the years, Don enjoyed curling, hours on the golf course with friends, and followed baseball and hockey, especially enjoying the family hockey nights at home cheering for the Oilers.  His dry sense of humour accompanied him wherever he went.  Spare time was devoted to working in the garden, often alongside his family with a black cocker spaniel following at his side. Above all, Don was a constant source of love and support for his family, and he will be so very missed.

Don will be buried at Lloydminster Cemetery following a small private ceremony on Wednesday September 27, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Don can be made to The Olive Tree, Border Paws Animal Shelter, or the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
