Obituary of Denise Kent
Denise (née Rougeau) Kent passed away at the age of 97 years.
Denise is survived by her sons, Roger (Julia), and Gerald; granddaughters, Danielle, Katherine, Julia; grandsons, Alexander and Keith; sister-in-law, Sheila Kent; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and family throughout Canada, United States and France.
Denise was born in Cluny, Alberta in 1926, into a French-speaking family, the third of five daughters, who moved to Therien, AB in 1933. They spoke French at home and English everywhere else, so the Rougeau sisters were perfectly bilingual. She married Jack Kent in 1948 and became an Air Force spouse for 25 years, with postings across Canada from Whitehorse to Montreal and overseas to Prestwick, Scotland and London, England. She was a school teacher, specializing in the teaching of reading, first in Ottawa, then Bonnyville, Lloydminster and Kitscoty. She was also a family historian and published the two volume, 824 page, “La Famille Rougeau au Canada” tracing her father’s family history from France in the 1500s, to New France in the 1600s, then Quebec and finally Alberta. She was an avid walker, diarist, world traveler and the matriarch binding the family together in Canada, the USA and France.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 1pm, eulogy and interment at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Irwinville, followed by a reception at the Community Hall, Marwayne, Alberta.
Donations in memory of Denise may be made to University Hospital Foundation or to donor's Charity of Choice.
